(a) The Transportation Operations Superintendent shall install parking meters in the parking meter zones established as provided in this article upon the curb immediately adjacent to each designated parking space. Such meters shall be capable of being operated either automatically or mechanically, only upon the deposit therein of coins of the United States in the denomination and in the number of combinations shown by a legend on the meter. The amount of parking time granted for each coin shall be in the amount shown on the meter; provided, it shall be illegal to park beyond the time limit specified on the face of such parking meter regardless of the number of coins deposited.

(b) Each parking meter shall be so designed, constructed, installed and set that upon the expiration of the time period registered by the deposit of one or more coins as provided in this section, it will indicate by an appropriate signal that the lawful parking meter period has expired, and during such period of time and prior to the expiration thereof, will indicate the interval of time that remains for such period.

(c) Each parking meter shall bear thereon a legend indicating the days and hours when the requirement to deposit coins therein shall apply, the value of the coins to be deposited and the limited period of time for which parking is lawfully permitted in the parking meter zone in which such meter is located.
