No driver of a taxicab, while carrying passengers or under employment, shall display the signal on the taximeter in such position to denote that the driver is unemployed. While carrying passengers, the signal must be in such position that the taximeter records the distance traveled and the fare. When such driver is not employed, the signal must be displayed in such position to denote that the driver is unemployed. No charge shall be made for the time consumed in response to a call or in returning to the place from which such taxicab was called. This section shall not apply to share-a-ride. (Code 1981 § 46-48.
